Petersen manufactures many sizes of heavy-duty inflatable bags for sealing off large mine shafts, drifts, tunnels, and canals for emergency, abandonment or maintenance. Their deflated size is small enough to make them ideal for installation within confined spaces. These inflatable shaft seals are made for a specific project to meet pressure, temperature, and chemical requirements.
They are generally inflated with air, inert gas, water or concrete. The 22 foot diameter Grout Bag shown was first filled with water and then the water was displaced with concrete to permanently seal off a section of a flooded mine.
