Designed with an oil-resistant elastomer compound, this inflatable pipe plug provides reliable sealing performance in service environments while maintaining flow control through an integrated bypass feature. It allows operators to isolate pipeline sections efficiently while still permitting a regulated flow through the bypass line, making it suitable for maintenance operations, pressure testing, and system isolation in demanding industrial applications.
How the Multi-Flex® Oil-Resistant Bypass Pipe Plug Works
The Multi-Flex® oil-resistant pipe plug with bypass is simple in design but powerful in performance. Here’s how it works.
- Insert and Position: The deflated plug is inserted into the pipe at the desired location. Its flexible construction allows it to conform to minor irregularities such as scale buildup, or non-uniform pipe walls.
- Inflate to Seal: Air or another inflation medium is introduced through the inflation valve. The rubber element expands outward, pressing against the pipe wall with uniform, circumferential force. Inflation pressure drives the seal. The greater the pressure within design limits, the more secure is the hold against the pipe wall.
- Bypass Flow Continues: While the plug seals the pipeline, the integrated bypass tube allows controlled flow through the plug. Flow rate can be regulated through the bypass connection.
- Oil-Resistant Materials: The elastomer compound resists swelling and degradation when exposed to petroleum products, helping maintain sealing performance.
- Deflate and Remove: After use, the plug is deflated and removed. The pipeline can then return to normal operation.
